Dooley Tames Panthers Offense as Spartans Take Home 2-0 Victory
The sophomore pitcher snapped the 8 game streak with at least one run by FIT
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team spent three weekends on the road to open the season before hosting the Florida Tech Panthers for its home opener and first home series. The Spartans took on the Panthers on Friday evening as UT took game one of the series 2-0.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
2nd Inning: The Spartans opened the scoring in the bottom of the inning as Corynn Miner doubled to left field and moved to third on a single by Elly Pillers. Maddie Farrell drove Miner in after hitting a sacrifice fly to shallow left field.
6th Inning: Makaleigh Dooley helped out her own cause as she helped get the offense going in the inning. Dooley reached first safely on an error by the FIT shortstop. Lauren Pascoe came in as a pinch runner and scored all the way from first as Miner was again involved as she singled to right field.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Dooley was able to add five more strikeouts while just walking two and giving up only one hit to the Panthers.
- Miner's double in the second inning extended the Spartans streak to seven games with at least one extra-base hit.
- The FIT offense came into the match averaging six runs per game but was shutout for just the second time this season, with the first one coming in their season opener against Angelo State.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- A single by Bre Setree in the bottom of the third inning extended her streak of reaching base to 11 games.
- In the meantime, Pillers is now on a seven-game hitting streak after her single.
- UT has now outscored opponents 60-22 on the season and has scored first in seven of the 11 games this year.
