Dooley Named SSC Pitcher of the Week for a Second Time
After helping UT sweep FIT over the weekend, the SSC awarded Dooley the honor for her two wins in the circle
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Makaleigh Dooley earned her second Pitcher of the Week award after posting two wins for Tampa against Florida Tech. The Tampa native pitched a complete game shutout on Friday as the Spartans won, 2-0. Dooley had five strikeouts and two walks in the effort, giving up just one hit across all seven innings of work. In the second win, the sophomore pitched 6.1 innings giving up just one run on four hits and striking out three more batters with just two walks. With the play of Dooley, the Spartans move to 11-2 and 5-1 in SSC play.
The team returns to action this Friday, March 3rd as they travel to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on the Lynn University Fighting Knights in a matchup of the top two teams in the current SSC standings. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. while the doubleheader on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of February 20-26, 2017. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
