Tampa and Lynn Split Saturday Doubleheader
On the back of 12 innings of work from Dooley, UT took game two, 2-1, to win the series
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team and the Lynn University Fighting Knights split their Saturday doubleheader with UT taking the first game 2-1 in extra innings and LU taking the closing game 5-1 to avoid the sweep.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final (12 Innings): Tampa 2 (W: Dooley 7-1), Lynn 1 (L: Olexa 3-5)
Records: Spartans (13-2, 7-1 SSC), Fighting Knights (8-8, 5-3 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bottom 3rd Inning: The Knights took a 1-0 lead on a single by Karolina Flores that scored Sara Vazquez.
Top 6th Inning: Shelby Press opened the inning with a single to left field and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sahrina Cortes. Press alertly took third base on a wild pitch and was brought home by Bre Setree who hit a triple to center field.
Top 12th Inning: Elly Pillers singled to right field to start the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maddie Farrell. Pillers was able to move to third base as Jennie Sittloh hit a grounder to the shortstop and forced the fielder into making the choice. Press was again in the spotlight and came through for her team with a single up the middle easily scored Pillers for the would-be game-winning run.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Dooley tossed a season-high 176 pitches, with 132 of them being strikes. She gave up just the lone run to go with no walks and six more strikeouts.
- Press had a successful game at the plate as she went 3 for 5 with one run scored and one RBI.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Setree extended her streak of reaching base to 15 games with her triple in the sixth inning.
- UT has extended their streak with at least one extra-base hit to 11.
- Pillers has now extended her streak of games with at least one hit to 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bottom 3rd Inning: Lynn was able to put three runs on the board on four hits to open the scoring.
Bottom 5th Inning: The Fighting Knights added a pair of insurance runs on a double to right field by Leanne Wright for the 5-0 lead.
Top 6th Inning: The Spartans would not go down without a fight and were able to snap the shutout by the Knights. Setree drew a walk with one out to get started and was replaced by Miranda Matheny coming on as a pinch runner. Dooley singled to center field putting runners on first and second with just one out. Miner reached on a fielder's choice as Lynn took the force out at third. Pillers loaded the bases with a single up the middle. Dooley came home as Sittloh was hit by a pitch and moved all the runners up a base.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Setree went 1 for 2 at the plate, drawing a pair of walks in the process.
- In the meantime, Dooley went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 walk drawn.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Setree has reached base safely in all 16 games this season after a single in the first inning extended the streak.
- Since being shutout by Flagler in St. Augustine, Tampa has scored at least one run in every game (12) while also extending the streak of at least one extra-base hit to a dozen games.
- Pillers was 0-2 at the plate before a single in the 6th inning extended her team-leading streak to 12 games with at least one hit.
UP NEXT:
The team has a busy week coming up as they have three different series to tackle. On Monday, they will host Southwest Minnesota State for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. On Wednesday, Chestnut Hill comes to town for another doubleheader also slated to begin at 5 p.m. SSC play will resume on Friday against Nova Southeastern University on Friday at 6 p.m.
