Spartans Set to Take on Trio of Schools this Week
After winning two of three games this past weekend, UT will have seven games in six days

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team will be busy during this coming week as they are set to host three different teams between Monday and Saturday. On Monday, UT will welcome Southwest Minnesota State for an evening doubleheader. On Wednesday, Chestnut Hill comes to town for a pair of games. On Friday, the Nova Southeastern University Sharks will visit the Spartans to resume SSC play.

About the Spartans: After winning the series against the Lynn University Fighting Knights, UT stands at 13-3 (7-2 SSC) on the season and is atop the Sunshine State Conference Standings. The Spartans are led offensively by Elly Pillers, who is currently on a 12 game hit streak and Bre Setree, the senior third baseman who has reached base safely in every game this season and is tied for 5th in career doubles after hitting one on Friday against LU. In the circle, sophomore Makaleigh Dooley has a 1.51 ERA and has conceded only 15 runs in 60.1 innings of work while freshman Corynn Miner has a 2.02 ERA and has struck out 54 batters in 55.1 innings tossed.
About the Mustangs: Southwest Minnesota State comes to Tampa with a 4-0 record and will play on Sunday in Clermont, Fla. against Saint Josephs College (Ind.) and Ashland University. Alex O'Connor leads the team in pitching with a 1.08 ERA and 2-0 record, having tossed 13 innings giving up two runs and 10 hits. Offensively, Abbie Decker is hitting an impressive .636 in the four games played so far with three runs and five RBI.
Series History: This will be the first time that UT will take on Southwest Minnesota State.

About the Griffins: Chestnut Hill will come into the Wednesday night matchup having just started their 2017 campaign. They will take on Webber International University in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon and will play Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla. on Tuesday for another doubleheader prior to visiting UT. In the pitching circle, CHC will have a veteran presence as senior Briannen Holloway returns. Holloway led the team in wins (6), earned-run-average (3.02 ERA), complete games (17), and innings pitched (125.1) in 2016, while recording 92 strikeouts. Corie Apodaca and Ariel Magee led the team offensively with the former offering a team-best .354 batting average and the latter producing team-highs in hits (46), doubles (16), runs-batted-in (22), and slugging (.526)
Series History: This will be the first time that Tampa will take on Chestnut Hill.

About the Sharks: Nova Southeastern is coming off a surprising upset of the No. 8 Saint Leo Lions as the Sharks took both games this past Saturday to win the series 2-1, with the final win being a walk-off 3-2 victory for NSU. With the series complete, the Sharks improved their record to 8-10 overall and 3-3 in Sunshine State Conference play. At the circle, Lexie Storrer has a team-best 2.30 ERA. The Freshman pitcher has 10 complete games and has pitched 67 innings so far, giving up 34 runs (22 earned) and has walked 19 to go with 31 strikeouts. At the plate, senior Dakota Villella has appeared in every game this season and has a .367 AVG with eight runs and seven RBI. Villella has drawn six walks and is a threat to run as she has 13 stolen bases on 14 attempts.
Series History: Tampa leads the all-time series against NSU with a 25-16 record against the Sharks. Last season, the Spartans won 2 of the 3 games in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
