Sharks Bite Sinks Spartans
Nova scored two runs in the first and two in the seventh to take the win
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team was back in Sunshine State Conference play as they opened a three-game series against the Nova Southeastern University Sharks on Friday night. The opening game went the way of the visitors as they put up two runs in the first inning and two runs in the seventh inning to take the win.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Top 1st Inning: The Sharks opened the scoring as they scored two runs on three hits.
6th Inning: The Spartan bats finally came to life as Taylor Farrell reached on a fielder's choice and was replace by Lauren Pascoe as a pinch runner. Bre Setree doubled to right center and placed runners at second and third with two outs. Breanna Taphouse replaced Setree as a second pinch runner and Makaleigh Dooley drove both runs in with a single to right field to knot the game up at 2-2.
Top 7th Inning: Nova pitcher Lexie Storrer drove in a pair of runs to give the Sharks a 4-2 lead.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Miner gave up the four runs on seven hits. She recorded seven strikeouts and two walks in her first appearance in the circle since last Saturday against Lynn.
- Sahrina Cortes was the only batter to have more than one hit while Setree and Dooley had the remaining two hits.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- UT had been undefeated at home going into this game and had also not lost when holding opponents to less than three runs.
- Elly Pillers had her hit streak snapped at 16 games. Pillers will hold the second-longest hit streak in UT softball history, coming up two games short of the school record.
- The Spartans streak with at least one extra-base hit will stay alive for at least one more game as Setree doubled in the sixth inning.
UP NEXT:
The team will be back on the field tomorrow afternoon as they wrap up their series against NSU with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
