Buccaneers Steal Game One From Spartans
The offense for UT was held to one run for the second consecutive Friday night game
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team resumed its Sunshine State Conference slate against the Barry University Buccaneers as they opened up a three-game series on Friday night. The game ended 4-1 in favor of the Buccaneers as UT has now dropped three straight Friday games.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
4th Inning: The Spartans opened the scoring in the game as Bre Setree reached first on an error by the pitcher with one out. Elly Pillers followed up with a fielder's choice that allowed her to reach first with Setree being out at second on the play. Makaleigh Dooley drove in the run with a double to left-center field that reached the fence and let Pillers score without any issues.
5th Inning: The Buccaneers tied the game up at 1-1 with a single through the right side that scored a runner from third.
6th Inning: The visitors took advantage of two runners reaching via walks to break open the game with a 3-run home run to left-center field for a 4-1 lead that ended up being the final runs of the game.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Dooley tossed 5.1 innings and recorded 5 strikeouts while having two walks and being tagged for three of the runs.
- Miner went the remaining 1.2 innings, giving up just one run on two hits.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The team is now 5-5 on the year when scoring two runs or less, as the offense was unable to come to life with only two batters reaching base on hits.
- Setree has now reached base 9 straight games.
- This is only the second home loss of the season for the Spartans.
UP NEXT:
The team will be back on the field tomorrow as they wrap up the series against BU with a doubleheader slated for a noon start.
