TAMPA, Fla. – The #16 University of Tampa softball team will host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish for a three-game regional series after taking the series over the Barry Buccaneers 2-1 two weeks ago. UT is coming off a bye week as they did not play any games this past weekend.
Date/Time: Friday, April 7th at 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 8th beginning at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
Location: Naimoli Family Softball Field | Tampa, Fla.
About the Spartans: After winning the series against the Buccaneers, UT stands at 23-9 on the season. The Spartans are led by Bre Setree and Elly Pillers, who are batting just under .400 for the year with Setree leading the team at .398 and Pillers a close second at .393. The pitching duo of Makaleigh Dooley and Corynn Miner have continued their impressive seasons as they are both coming in with ERAs under 2.0. Dooley comes into the series with a 14-3 record and has 90 strikeouts to just 14 walks. In the meantime, Miner comes in with a 1.85 ERA and has allowed just 23 earned runs in 87 innings of work.
About the Sailfish: Palm Beach Atlantic comes into the series with a 24-15 record this year. The Sailfish bring a three-game win streak to Tampa as they swept the visiting Florida Southern Mocs last weekend with all three games being close (2-1, 2-0, 3-2). The PBA offense is led by Magnolia West who comes in with an impressive .452 AVG and Kayla Knight who has a .402 AVG. In the circle, the Sailfish have turned primarily to Ashton Adkins and Nikki Brinegar. Adkins has a team-leading 2.63 ERA in 125 innings of work and a 13-5 record while Brinegar has a 3.84 ERA in 89.1 innings tossed.
Series History: Tampa leads the all-time series against PBA 11-9. The Sailfish swept the series last season over the Spartans in West Palm Beach, Fla.
