Setree Breaks Doubles Record as UT and EC Split Doubleheader
The senior shortstop broke the school record for career doubles in the first game of the day
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The No. 23 ranked University of Tampa softball team and the Eckerd College Tritons wrapped up their series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The opening game of the day was won by the Spartans 5-2. After a brief weather delay, the finale was taken by the Tritons 8-3.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bottom 4th: The Tritons opened the scoring with a solo home run to left-center field.
Top 5th: Bre Setree opened the inning with a double to left-center field and Breanna Taphouse replaced her as a pinch runner. Taphouse moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt. Maddie Farrell drew a walk to place runners on the corners with just one out. After Alex Walton replaced Farrell as a pinch runner, Jennie Sittloh hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Taphouse and tied the game as Walton moved to second on the throw. Miner helped out her own cause as she gave her team the lead with a double down the left field line to make it 2-1.
Top 6th: Elly Pillers drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Pillers was able to take third base on a wild pitch and came in to score. Setree doubled to right-center field to drive in Pillers and Dooley followed her with a two-run home run down the left-field line.
Bottom 6th: Eckerd was able to get one run back as they hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored a runner from third.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Setree went 3 for 4 at the plate with one run and one RBI and the two doubles.
- Dooley went 2 for 3 at the plate as she scored a run and had 2 RBI. Dooley's home run was her first of the season.
- Miner tossed a total of 94 pitches with 63 being strikes while Dooley tossed 24 pitches with 18 being called strikes.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Setree's 5th inning double placed her alone at the top of the record books with 38 career doubles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bottom 1st: The home team took little time in opening the scoring as two runs crossed home plate in the bottom half of the inning on a pair of doubles.
Top 3rd: The Spartans cut the deficit in half as Shelby Press was able to come all the way around from first on a fielder's choice by Pillers that led to a throwing error by the Tritons third baseman.
Bottom 3rd: EC extended their lead as they scored two runs on two wild pitches to take a 4-1 lead against UT.
Bottom 4th: The Tritons added another run on a triple to left-center field that scored a runner from first.
Top 5th: Miner was able to cut into the lead with a solo shot to straightaway center field to make it 5-2.
Bottom 5th: The final three runs for the home team came on a three-run home run to left field that made it a five-run game.
Top 7th: Sittloh led off the inning with a solo shot to left-center field as the Spartans fought to come back but fell short.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Dooley recorded 44 of 59 pitches thrown for strikes while Miner tossed 28 total pitches with 18 being strikes.
- Miner went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and a home run.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- This was the first time this season that UT has hit at least one home run in back to back games.
UP NEXT:
The Spartans wrap up the regular season at home as they welcome the Florida Southern College Mocs for a three-game conference series. The series starts on Friday at 6 p.m. and wraps up on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. In between the two games on Saturday, the team will recognize its four seniors.
