Spartans Win Series Opener Over No.19 Lions
Tampa has now won the last four over Saint Leo
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team hosted the No.19 Saint Leo University Lions on Friday night for a clash of two teams fighting for positioning in the SSC standings. The Spartans scored the lone run of the game in the sixth inning to clinch the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bott. 6th: Maddie Farrell doubled to left field with two away to get the Tampa rally going. Breanna Taphouse replaced Farrell as a pinch runner and came in to score on a single to center field by Emalee Jansen who advanced on the throw.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- This is the fourth straight win over Saint Leo for Tampa.
- The Spartans had three doubles in the game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Dooley and the defense shutout a Lions offense that came in averaging 5.17 runs per game.
- Tampa has now scored 123 runs on the year.
- The Spartans have 69 extra base hits.
UP NEXT:
The team will be back on the field tomorrow afternoon to close out the series against the Lions with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
