Makaleigh Dooley and Shelby Press Earn All-SSC Recognition
Dooley was named the Pitcher of the Year and First Team while Press was named Second Team
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference presents the 2018 softball postseason awards. Palm Beach Atlantic University, the 2018 SSC champion, collects nine accolades including Co-Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. In total, 30 student-athletes from all 11 member institutions are recognized on the All-SSC softball teams.
Voting for the All-SSC Softball Team is conducted among the league's softball coaches.

Shannon Bell of Florida Southern College and Magnolia West of Palm Beach Atlantic University are SSC softball Co-Players of the Year. Makaleigh Dooley from the University of Tampa earns Pitcher of the Year honors, while the league office recognizes Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Kaitlyn Thompson as Freshman of the Year. PBA's Bailey Castro has been chosen as SSC Coach of the Year by her peers.
Dooley made 39 appearances and threw 30 complete games for Tampa in 2018. She sported a 25 and 11 record for the Spartans, along with two saves, with 247.1 innings pitched. Dooley, a native of Tampa, led the conference in wins (25) and batters struck out (226). She was second in earned run average (1.27), innings pitched (247.1), and batters struck out looking (53). The junior becomes the fourth Spartans athlete to earn Pitcher of the Year, the first since 20154.
Senior Shelby Press joined Dooley in the list of recognized players as she was named to the second team. The left fielder appeared in all but one game for the Spartans this season, leading the team in avg (.308), runs (17), triples and home runs (2), RBI (19) and tied in stolen bases (4) while being second in hits (40).
