Makaleigh Dooley Earns All-South Region Recognition
The Tampa ace was named to the first team as she continues to collect awards
LOUISVILLE, Ky. –The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced the 2018 NFCA Division II All-Region teams. This year's squads are comprised of 207 student-athletes from 120 programs. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division II All-America squads. Spartan pitcher Makaleigh Dooley earned first-team honors after guiding UT to a 28-16 overall record and 19-11 in Sunshine State Conference play.
Dooley made 39 appearances and threw 30 complete games for Tampa in 2018. She sported a 25-11 record for the Spartans, along with two saves, with 247.1 innings pitched. A native of Tampa, she led the conference in wins (25) and batters struck out (226). She was second in earned run average (1.27), innings pitched (247.1), and batters struck out looking (53).
The Tampa ace also tied the school record for wins in a season with 25 and was one of only three players to appear and start in every game during the season. Dooley set a new career high for starts in the circle (32), complete games (30), innings pitched (247.1), and strikeouts (226). The junior also finished the season with a career-best in ERA after finishing the season at 1.27.

The 2018 NFCA Division II All-American teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 23 at the NCAA Division II National Championship Banquet in Salem, Va.
