Spartans Complete Sweep Over Eckerd College
The University of Tampa complete the sweep against conference-foe Eckerd College.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team completed the Sunshine State Conference sweep over the Eckerd College Tritons. In the three-game set, the Spartans' out-scored EC by ten runs, 11-1.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (Game One):

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOT 1ST | Stephanie Balmer continued her hot-hitting with a base knock to lead off the game. After a sacrifice moved Balmer into scoring position, Mariah Galhouse spilt the right center field gap with an RBI single. Galhouse registered her sixth RBI of the season as the freshman has driven in a first-inning run in both games against Eckerd. || UT 1, EC 0
BOT 3RD | The Spartans began the inning with consecutive walks to Emily Proffitt and Balmer. Cristina Clauberg advanced the runners with her second sacrifice bunt of the game. Galhouse extended the lead for Tampa with a bases-clearing double off the left field fence. || UT 3, EC 0
BOT 5TH | With one out in the fifth, Corynn Miner drove a liner through the right-center field and recorded her fourth career triple. In the following at-bat, Galhouse singled up the middle and logged her fourth RBI of the day as Miner scored from third. Maddie Farrell reached on an error by Eckerd's shortstop, Kaylin Kramer. Ansley Casillas, a freshman from Brentwood, TN., pinch-hit for Bailey Phillips. Casillas drove in Galhouse on an RBI single to left field to extend the lead. || UT 5, EC 0
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Mariah Galhouse tossed her first career complete game shutout. The freshman from Spring Hill, Fla. allowed two hits, three walks and struck out three.
- Offensively, Galhouse drove in a career-high four runs; the dual-threat went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI.
- Miner, a red-shirt junior, logged her first triple of the 2020 season. The Saint Petersburg, Fla. native is tied for the team lead in extra-base hits (4).
- The Spartans pitching staff registered their fourth shutout in the last five games.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- In the eighth start of her freshman campaign, Galhouse earned her fifth win of the season and dropped her season ERA to 1.38.
- In back-to-back games, Galhouse logged a first inning RBI to give Tampa the initial lead.
- Miner has logged six multi-hit games in the 2020 season.
- The Spartans scored a first inning run for the ninth time this year. Tampa's undefeated in all nine games in which they've scored a first inning run.
- UT has won 10 of the last 12 games; Tampa took their third conference series after the victory (Palm Beach Atlantic, No. 16 Saint Leo).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 1ST | Eckerd's Lauren Margolis laced her team-leading sixth double with a missile down the left field line. With two outs, Margolis scored from second base on Val Holguin's RBI base knock to left field. || EC 1, UT 0
BOT 1ST | Tampa's starting pitcher, Corynn Miner, hit a hard laser through the left center field gap for a two-out double. After Miner's second double of the year, Mariah Galhouse scored the red-shirt junior from second base with a two-out RBI single to left field. Galhouse logged her tenth RBI of the season in the first inning. || UT 1, EC 1
BOT 3RD | The Spartans' began the inning with four consecutive singles by Cristina Clauberg, Miner, Galhouse and an RBI single from Maddie Farrell. Farrell flared to shallow center field to score the pinch-runner, Anyssa Grant. With the bases-loaded and two outs, Emalee Jansen knocked an RBI base hit into center field to extend the lead for Tampa. || UT 3, EC 1
BOT 6TH | Alexa Russo walked to begin the inning and Mackenzie Allen pinch-ran for the freshman, Russo. Allen advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from the pinch-hitter, Kailee Clark. With two outs, Stephanie Balmer hit an infield single off the end of the bat which increased the lead for the Spartans. || UT 4, EC 1
INSIDE THE STATS:
- In her 10th start of the year, Corynn Miner tossed a fourth straight complete game. The red-shirt junior logged ten strikeouts and allowed one run on three hits.
- Miner earned her ninth win of the season and struckout double digit batter's for the fifth time this year.
- Offensively, Miner logged multiple hits for the second consecutive game and the seventh game in total. The Saint Petersburg, Fla. native is tied for the team lead in extra-base hits (5)
- Eckerd's leader in hits, Hannah Famiano, was held hitless for the entire series; after entering with one hitless game in 14 starts.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- In her last six appearances, Miner has allowed one run in 29.2 innings pitched.
- Stephanie Balmer's recorded at least one hit in nine of the last 11 games.
- The Spartans scored in the first inning in each game of the three-game set.
- Mariah Galhouse drove in a first inning run for Tampa in every game of the series.
- Tampa has won every conference series thus far, however, this was the first series sweep for UT.
- UT has won 11 of the last 13 games, including three conference series victories.
- The Spartans scored a first inning run for the tenth time this year. Tampa's undefeated in all ten games in which they've scored a first inning run.
- The offense has scored 19 runs in the sixth inning while UT has scored 15 runs in the first inning.
