Spartans Sweep Lions in SSC Doubleheader

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans swept a Sunday doubleheader with the Saint Leo University Lions, moving to 12-4 on the year, including 10-3 in conference play.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Game One Final: Tampa 3, Saint Leo 2

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:

• Saint Leo struck first, scoring the games first run in the opening frame. | 2-1 Tampa
• Tampa enjoyed a two-run second inning when Corynn Miner reached home on a throwing error and Alexa Russo scored on a Bailey Phillips single. | 2-1 Tampa
• The Spartans found another run in the top of the fourth when Lauren Fantone scored, unearned, on the sacrifice bunt attempt. | 3-1 Tampa
• Saint Leo scored once in the bottom of the seventh. | Final 3-2 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS — GAME ONE:

• Lauren Fantone continues her great season, going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with one run scored.
• Bailey Phillips hit 1-for-2 with two RBI.
• Corynn Miner earned her 6^th win of the season, striking out seven along the way.

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:

• Alexa Russo hit her first homerun of the season, a solo shot in the top of the second. | 1-0 Tampa
• Avery Perkins singled to center field, bringing home Lexie Chevalier in the process. | 2-0 Tampa
• A Stephanie Balmer single brought in Perkins for Tampa's third run in the top of the second. | Tampa 3-0
• Saint Leo scored in the bottom of the third. | 3-2 Tampa
• Chevalier cracked a double to left field, scoring Lauren Fantone in the top of the sixth. | Tampa 4-2
• Corynn Miner launched a double in the top of the seventh, extending Tampa's lead 5-2 on the run from Emily Proffitt. |Tampa 5-2
• Saint Leo scored once in the bottom of the seventh. | Final 5-3 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS — GAME TWO:

• Mariah Galhouse did it all, picking up her 7^th win of the season, striking out three, and hiting 2-for-4 from the plate.
• Lauren Fantone added two more hits in the second showing, hitting a combined 4-6 in both games. Her .378 season average leads the Spartans.
• Lexie Chevalier hit 2-for-3 with an RBI.

UP NEXT: The Spartans travel to Saint Leo, Fla. to take on the Saint Leo Lions for a Sunday doubleheader. The first game starts at 1:00 p.m and the second at 3:00 p.m.
