Spartans Prepared To Begin NCAA Tournament
CLEVELAND, Miss. - The No. 25 University of Tampa Spartans women's basketball team is set to compete in its fourth straight NCAA South Regional on Friday. UT (25-5) enters the tournament as the number-three seed and will take on number-six seed Clark Atlanta University (26-4) at 4 p.m. eastern time at the Sillers Coliseum on the campus of Delta State University.
The contest marks the first time the two programs have met on the court.
The Spartans - winners of both the regular season and tournament titles in the Sunshine State Conference - enter the postseason with one of the best defenses in Division II, ranking third in both field goal percentage defense (32.3 percent) and scoring defense, allowing opponents to average just 50.5 points per game. UT is also 14th in the country in blocked shots, averaging 4.8 a game.
