Spartans Blockade Buccaneers from Victory
The University of Tampa women's basketball team traveled to Barry University to battle the Buccaneers and defeated them in a dominant fashion.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's basketball team traveled to Miami Shores to take on the Barry Buccaneers and were victorious as the Spartans went on to win 72-51.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Quarter | Barry hit the boards first on a jumper but after a foul on the Bucs, Karma Jeremie went to the free throw line and put the Spartans on the board, making both of her shots. Senior Elena de Alfredo tallied her first points of the game after making a jumper. Jeremie followed those points on a layup. Barry's offense continued to score points and closed in on the Spartans lead. The Spartans only led by one point heading into the second quarter. Junior Faith Sanders led the Spartans with six points in the first quarter.
2nd Quarter | The Bucs took the lead to open the second quarter on a three point shot. They continued to score points, both teams trading basket-for-basket. Junior Morgan Lumb got in on the action after hitting a deep three pointer. The Spartans took the largest lead of the game after a jumper from senior Jenny Horvatinovic and a layup from Sanders, making the score 30-29, Spartan advantage. Freshman Rachel Warden would increase the Spartans lead by even more after recording her first points of the game and draining a three pointer. The Spartans ended the second quarter on a layup from Sanders, making the score 40-24 going into halftime.
3rd Quarter | de Alfredo scored first for the Spartans on a jumper which was followed by a jumper from Horvatinovic. The Bucs continued to score points, but the Spartans kept them at a distance. After a jumper from Lumb, the Spartans led by 23 points. The teams traded points throughout the middle of the third quarter but the Bucs closed in on the Spartans lead and made the score 55-36 heading into the final quarter.
4th Quarter | The Bucs scored first on free throws after the Spartans were fouled. Horvatinovic was the first Spartan to score points in the final quarter after she sunk a deep three point shot. de Alfredo followed suit and shot a three pointer of her own, making the Spartans lead by 20 points. The Spartans offense continued to be dominant as they led by as many as 28 points with three and a half minutes left on the clock. The Bucs kept the Spartans scoreless for the last three and a half minutes of the game as they went on a 8-0, but that was not enough for the Bucs to catch up to the Spartans. The Spartans went on to win 72-51.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- de Alfredo was the leading point scorer with 18 points.
- Sanders was the second leading point scorere and also tallied three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- Jeremie was the leading rebounder for the Spartans with 8.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Spartans have not dropped a game to the Bucs since the 2012-13 season.
