The Spartans Defeated the Trojans, Ending the Weekend 2-0
Concluding the Thanksgiving Classic Tampa women's basketball finished the weekend undefeated.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: University of Tampa 72, Anderson University Trojans 53

All-time Series: This was the first time UT has ever faced Anderson, resulting in Tampa leading the all-time series 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Quarter | Tampa was awarded the jump ball and was first on the board with a layup from Molly Franson. At the media timeout, Tampa led 10-2. Emily Eshoo drained the team's first three-pointer with 2:30 left in the first. Eshoo also led the team on offense seven points in the quarter. The Spartans dominated on both sides of the ball. After the first quarter, the Spartans led the Trojans 23-9.
2nd Quarter | Anderson was first on the board in the second, however, Karma Jeremie was quick to respond with a layup. Tampa's offense slowed forcing Coach Tom Jessee to take a timeout leading 33-21. Following the timeout, Faith Sanders was the first to score with a layup for the Spartans. Heading into the half, Eshoo continued to lead the Spartans in points with seven, followed by Jeremie and Staja Tyghter each with six. Franson led the team in rebounds with eight. At the half, the Spartans led the Trojans 35-24.
3rd Quarter | Coming out of the locker room with fresh legs, Jeremie scored first with a layup for UT. At the first media timeout, Tampa led Anderson 37-24. Emily Eshoo scored the first three of the second half, ending the quarter 2-5 from behind the arc. At the second media timeout, the Spartans continued to hold the lead over the Trojans 44-29. This lead continued as the clock ran out, Tampa 54, Anderson 32.
4th Quarter | The first points of the fourth were scored by the Trojans. However, right after they scored, Tyghter sank her second three of the game. Immediately following Tyghter's three, Rachel Warden drained one herself, securing Tampa's lead 60-36. At the media timeout in the fourth Tampa was on top 65-40. Tampa kept the lead for the rest of the game ending with a final score of 72-53.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Karma Jeremie was the leading point scorer with 21 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
- Staja Tyghter was the second leading point score for Tampa with 17. She also led the team in rebounds with 14.
- As a team, the Spartans shot 50 percent from the field compared to the Trojans who shot 31.1 percent.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:.
- This is the first win for the Spartans over the Trojans and is the first time the two teams have met.
