Spartans Prepare For Battle With The Buccaneers

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's basketball team will host the Barry University Buccaneers on Saturday, December 9th. The women will play at 2:00 pm.  

The Matchup: University of Tampa (8-1, 3-1 SSC) vs. Barry University (6-2, 2-1 SSC)

Date/Time: Saturday, December 9th at 2:00 pm. 

Location: Bob Martinez Athletics Center | Tampa, Fla.

Last Time Out: The Spartans hosted the Valdosta State Blazers, in a close battle and defeated them 59-54. Karma Jeremie notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also recorded two assists and one steal. Junior Molly Franson led the Spartans with 20 points shooting 5-12 from the floor and 10-13 from the free throw line. A three-pointer late with 1:03 left in the fourth from Rachel Warden helped seal the deal over the Blazers, putting the Spartans up by four. 

About the Spartans (Women's): The Spartans are led offensively by Tyghter who is averaging 12.2 points per game. She is followed by junior Jeremie and sophomore Warden with 11.4 and 8.7. As a team, the Spartans are averaging 65.4 points per while shooting 44.7 percent from the field. The Spartans are also only allowing 55.0 points per game beating most of their opponents by a margin of at least 10+ points.

About the Bucs: Barbara Cousiño leads Barry with 133 points averaging 16.6 per game. She is followed by Kiara Palmer who is averaging 15.6 points per game. As a team, the Buccaneers are averaging 71.25 points per game, 40.5 rebounds per game, shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 73.8 from the free throw line. 

Series History: The Spartans lead the all-time series record over Barry with a 46-22 record. Tampa recorded a W in the last match (72-51) and currently have a 10 game win streak over the Buccaneers. 

Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens, and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
