Panthers Capture Win Over Spartans
The University of Tampa Women's basketball team traveled to Melbourne to take on the Florida Tech Panthers and were defeated 51-44.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | Florida Tech was the first team to score after making a layup but Staja Tyghter retaliated with a jumper of her own to put the Spartans on the board. After another jumper from Tyghter, the Spartans took their first lead of the quarter. Lauren Kotey contributed to the lead after notching her first points of the matchup on a layup. The Panthers took over the lead with three and a half minutes left in the game but after a three pointer from Tyghter, assisted by Faith Sanders, the Spartans regained their lead. The Panthers fought back and hit a deep three point buzzer beater to take the lead 22-21 heading into halftime. Tyghter was the leading point scorer with 10 points.
2nd Half | Florida Tech came out of halftime strong as they continued their lead through the majority of the third quarter. With three minutes left in the quarter, Rachel Warden hit a crucial three pointer and Tyghter made a layup that would give the Spartans a three point lead. The Panthers did not back down as they rallied back to take the lead from the Spartans and they maintained that lead until the end, defeating the Spartans 51-44.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Tyghter was the leading point scorer with 17 points.
- Emily Eshoo and Tyghter also led the defense with sixe rebounds each.

Tampa will host the Florida Southern Mocs on Wednesday, January 17th at 5:30 pm in the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
