HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | The competition started with a steal by Staja Tyghter that would set up the Spartans to score first after a made layup from Karma Jeremie. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead after a three pointer from Rachel Warden that would make the score 7-0 with six minutes left in the first quarter. The Spartans would maintain their lead through the first quarter heading into the second with a score of 16-9. Warden led all Spartans in the first quarter with six points and four rebounds. Warden would score first to open up the second quarter after making a jumper. The Spartans led by as many as 12 points with two minutes left in the second quarter. The Tritons continued to fight but Tampa carried their offensive run into halftime leading 37-29.
2nd Half | Jeremie started the second half with a layup to put the Spartans back up to a double digit lead. The Spartans and the Tritons traded points throughout the third quarter but an offensive run from the Tritons would close in on Tampa's lead, making the score 46-41 to start the fourth quarter. The Spartans did not let the Tritons offensive run deter them from scoring. With three minutes left in the game the Spartans led by 11 points. The Tritons began to close in on the Spartans comfortable double digit lead as they fought back to come within two points of the Spartans with thirty seconds left on the clock. The Tritons tied the game on a three point buzzer beater to head into halftime.
OT | Much like regulation play, the Spartans jumped out to an early lead over the Tritons. Again, the Tritons fought back and eventually took the lead, 61-59, after a deep three pointer. The teams would trade baskets, Eckerd maintaining their two point lead. The Tritons held on to their lead and went on to win 66-63.
