Tampa Set for Sunday Showdown

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's basketball team will host Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Sunday afternoon as they Spartans look to continue the success at home. 

The Matchup: University of Tampa Spartans (2-0, 0-0 SSC) vs. Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (0-0)

Date/Time: Sunday, November 18 at 5 pm. 

Location: Bob Martinez Athletics Center | Tampa, Fla. | 400 N Blvd, Tampa, FL 33606

Series History: This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Last Time Out: Tampa began the game against Claflin University on a 20-2 run in route to an 18 point victory, 83-65. Melijah Sullivan made her colleigate debut for the Spartans; she scored 21 points on 9 of 10 from the field as well as grabbing four rebounds, two steals and dished off two assists. Staja Tyghter bounced back for UT recording 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists paired with two steals and two blocks. UT had four players in double-figures in the scoring category. 

About Tampa: The Spartans went undefeated in the SSC-SIAC Crossover Challenge defeating Claflin University and LeMoyne-Owen College. Emily Eshoo logged 32 points in two games, in addition to her career-high 16 rebound performance on Nov. 9 against LOC. Dori Nagy, a transfer from the University of South Florida, has accumulated 25 points and 16 rebounds in two appearances as a Spartan. UT's averaging 14.5 made free throws per game, shooting 69% from the charity stripe. Tampa's grabbed 40.0 rebounds per game through two contests. Last season, the Spartans went 14-3 at the Martinez Athletics Center and they will look to continue that trend.

Tickets: General admission ticket prices for all Tampa regular season athletic events are $5. Youth (ages 12 and under) are admitted free of charge. UT students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid Spartan ID.
