Ana Maria Jimenez Rios Named WGCA All-American
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association has announced the 2022-23 Division II WGCA 2nd Team and Honorable Mention All-American Teams. First-team All-Americans were previously announced at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship.
University of Tampa sophomore Ana Maria Jimenez Rios was recognized as a second-team All-American. The native of Merida, Mexico was previously an honorable mention All-American as a freshman. She is a two-time all-Sunshine State Conference selection and joins Kiira Riihijarvi as the lone players in program history to be named a first or second-team All-American.
Jimenez Rios is coming off a 2022-23 season where she led the Spartans to the NCAA South Regional, where she helped her team qualify for the NCAA National Championships in Eureka, Mo. She won individual medalist honors in three tournaments this season, most notably at the NCAA South Regional. She also took the championship at the Westminster Wasatch Invite and the Lynn Invitational.
Nationally ranked all season with a high of No. 14, Jimenez Rios carried a scoring average of 73.52 this season, coming in 2-over-par. She finished inside the top-five at a total of five tournaments in the 2022-23 season, leading the way for a deep run in the NCAA Championships for head coach Missey Jones.
With 13 par or less rounds this season, Jimenez Rios is second in program history in that category. She also set a UT record with 33 rounds of counting scores in 2022-23. She would also rank second in UT history with 90 birdies and first with four eagles while her top round of 67 was the fourth lowest round in school history.
