Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 7 Limestone
The Spartans were unable to meet the tempo of the Saints, falling 16-5 on Wednesday night.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team dropped its Wednesday night matchup against No. 7 Limestone College by a 16-5 score at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.
The Saints of Limestone improve to a pristine 5-0 on the year while the hosting Spartans fall to 1-7.
Junior Amanda Voges recorded a hat-trick despite the outcome and now sits just three points shy of 100 in her career. The junior attacker would be the first in UT women's lacrosse history to eclipse 100 points.
Junior Emilie Barbosa converted a free-position shot for her second goal of the season while sophomore Madison Creech netted her sixth of the year behind a beautiful feed from fellow sophomore Natalie Carraway.
Tampa led the draw behind a strong effort from Amanda Rom. The sophomore attacker picked up four draw controls as UT edged Limestone 12-10 in the draw.
Limestone was dominant on defense, picking up 20 total groundballs while causing seven Tampa turnovers across the 60 minutes of play. Goalkeeper Sydney Teeter led with five groundballs.
The Spartans made the most of their offensive chances, converting five of their six shots on goal as the Limestone keepers recorded a single save on the evening. Tampa turned to the combined efforts of senior Caili Guilday (1-6) and sophomore Vala Molamusa in the net, as the duo stopped 10 shots on goal. Molamusa kept the Saints from scoring in the final nine minutes of play, recording a pair of saves. Freshman Abby Coccagna scooped up three groundballs to lead the UT defenders as the team was unable to match the torrid offense of No. 7 Limestone.
The Spartans will conclude Spring Break with a noon contest on Friday, hosting Indiana University of Pennsylvania on March 11.
