Tampa Women's Lacrosse is set to Host the Saint Leo Lions on Senior Night
#UTWLAX will honor their six seniors on Saturday against Saint Leo.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team will host the Saint Leo University Lions on Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting marks the fourth matchup between the two universities, Saint Leo leading the all-time series 2-1. Prior to the start of the game, the University of Tampa women's lacrosse team will be honoring their six seniors. Come out to the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex to show your support and gratitude.
The Matchup: University of Tampa (5-10, SSC 0-3) vs. Saint Leo University (6-10, SSC 0-3)
Date/Time: Saturday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m.
- In the last meeting, on April 16, 2016, the University of Tampa Spartans defeated the Saint Leo University Lions 8-7. In the matchup, Rachel Crawford had two goals while Amanda Rom had six draw controls and one assist.
Last Time Out:
The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team was defeated by SSC foe Florida Tech 19-13. Offensively, Caroline Forester led the Spartans with four goals on the night. Following Forester's offensive performance, it was the Amanda Show in Panther Stadium. Senior Amanda Voges tallied three goals and one assist on the night, and junior Amanda Rom recorded three goals and three assists. Defensively, freshman Claire Swanson led the Spartans, causing the Panthers to turn the ball over on two separate occasions. Additionally, goal keeper Mackenzie Hackett recorded a season high of 11 saves for the Spartans.
About the Spartans: The Spartans finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 5-10, and made it to the Sunshine State Conference tournament for the first time in program history. Going into the 2017 season, they returned their top three offensive weapons, Voges, Natalie Carraway, and Rom. Voges was also a 2016 Second-Team All-SSC selection. Nine freshmen joined the Spartans this year. Combined, Claire Swanson, Maggie Gladden, and Carly Vaccaro have 49 of the Spartan's total 185 goals on the season. Freshman Mackenzie Hackett starts at goal for the Spartans.
About the Lions: The Lions finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 3-12, 0-4 in the Sunshine State Conference. Currently, the Lions are 6-10 overall, with an SSC record of 0-3. Offensively, Saint Leo is led by Kelsey Burns, who has a total of 33 goals and five assists on the season. Burns is also the Lions stat leader in draw controls with 28 followed by Delaney Chrisco with 25. The Lions assist leader this season is Caroline Fraser, who has tallied 21 on the season thus far. Returning at goal keeper for the Lions is sophomore Rebecca Halley who has 89 saves on the season and an average save percent of 41.
Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens, and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
