Bridget Sutter Snags SSC Defensive Player of the Week
In the first game of her collegiate campaign, Bridget Sutter had a lights-out performance earning her an SSC Player of the Week honor.
TAMPA, Fla.- The Sunshine State Conference announced its women's lacrosse player of the week winners, tabbing University of Tampa goalie Bridget Sutter as the Defensive Player of the Week. This is the first Player of the Week recognition for the Spartans this season, and this marks the first time that Sutter has ever received this honor.
Only a freshman, Sutter made her college debut as the starting goalkeeper for the Spartans in the team's home opener against No. 11 Rollins College. In the 10-6 upset, Sutter faced 17 shots in the cage, recording 11 saves for UT. In addition to only allowing the Tars to earn six goals, the Evergreen, Colorado native played the entire 60 minutes for the Spartans. The win over Rollins also marked the first time in program history that the Spartans defeated a ranked opponent.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of February 5 - February 11, 2018. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
