University of Tampa Spartans Set to Host the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears
Tampa women's lacrosse is set to host the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears for a 5:00 p.m. showdown.
TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 18 University of Tampa women's lacrosse team is set to host the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears Wednesday, March, 14th at 5:00 p.m.
The Matchup: University of Tampa (5-2, 1-0 SSC) vs. Lenoir-Rhyne University (2-4, 2-0 SAC)

Last Time Out: The Spartans outbattled the North Greenville University Crusaders by a final score of 22-4. On offense, 11 different Spartans scored for UT. Senior Natalie Carraway headed the offensive efforts with four goals and two assists, and also scored her 100th career point, becoming just the third Spartan in program history to reach this milestone. Following the efforts of Carraway, was fellow classman Amanda Rom who recorded three goals and two assists, sophomore Claire Swanson who also recorded three goals and two assists, and junior Rachel Crawford stated two goals and three assists. Defensively, UT was led by junior Abby Coccagna who had two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while sophomore Alexa Scudillo led the team with five ground balls.
About the Spartans: Tampa is currently 5-2 overall, 1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. To start the 2018 season, the Spartans played three top-ranked opponents. In their very first game of the season, they were able to defeat the No. 11 ranked Rollins College Tars 10-6. The Spartans then took on No. 13 Limestone College, and No. 7 Queens University. Although they lost both of these matchups, the games were close and the team has been perfect since. Due to the team's outstanding performance thus far this season, the Spartans have Snagged the No. 18 rank according to the USILA Coaches Poll. This is the highest ranking the Spartans have received in program history.
About the Bears: The Bears are currently 2-4 overall, 2-0 in the South Atlantic Conference. The biggest offensive threats for the Bears are #10 Rachel Elmore and #21 Gabby Sousa. This season, Elmore has 19 goals, one assist, 36 draw controls, eight caused turnovers, and nine ground balls. Sousa sits with 17 goals, three assists, five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Rachel Elmore also leads the Bears defensively, leading the team in ground balls and caused turnovers, with nine and eight respectively. Lenoir-Rhyne's primary goalkeeper is #37 Ines Flueck who has logged 45 goals this season and has a goals-against average of 11.57.
