Spartans Snag No. 15 Ranking According to IWLCA Coaches Poll
After going 2-0 last week, the women's lacrosse team moves up three spots in the IWLCA coaches poll.
TAMPA, Fla. – In the IWLCA Division II Coaches poll announced on Monday, March 19th, the University of Tampa women's lacrosse program was tabbed the No. 15 best team in the nation. This is the highest ranking in program history.
Florida Southern (9-0) collected 23 of first-place votes to land at number one in this week's Division II Coaches Poll. Adelphi (5-1), Lindenwood (10-0), Le Moyne (5-0), and Florida Tech (9-0) all held their spot in the top five this week. Limestone (7-1) remains at number six, while LIU Post (4-2) and New Haven (3-1) flipped spots at numbers seven and eight and Indianapolis (5-1) and Mercy (6-1) did the same at nine and ten.
New Haven (#8) hosts #2 Adelphi, New York Tech (#19) travels to #15 Tampa, and #22 Mercyhurst welcomes #16 Indiana (PA) on Tuesday to kick off the week's Top-25 action. Assumption (#25) hosts #10 Mercy on Thursday, while Pace (#12) takes on #4 Le Moyne in a critical Northeast-10 matchup, and #6 Limestone and Rollins (#11) square off in a non-conference tilt on Friday. The weekend's action includes: Florida Tech (#5) against top-ranked Florida Southern; Merrimack (#21) versus New Haven; and #3 Lindenwood at McKendree (RV).
Tampa checks in at No. 15 after they opened their 2018 schedule playing against three nationally ranked opponents. In their very first game of the season, the Spartans upset the No. 11 ranked Rollins College Tars by a final score of 10-6. A week later, Tampa played the No. 13 ranked Limestone College Saints and only lost by two goals. UT then traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, where the Spartans lost to the No. 7 ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals by a final score of 14-8.
This past week, the Tampa Spartans went 2-0, defeating the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears 12-7, and the No. 23 McKendree Bearcats 17-14. The Spartans currently sit with a 2018 record of 7-2.
The Sunshine State Conference is well represented in the poll, with Florida Southern snagging the No. 1 spot, followed by Florida Tech at No. 5, and Rollins College at No. 11.
