Spartans Set to Host the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers
After stumbling against the NYIT Bears, the women's lacrosse team looks to bounce back against the UAH Chargers.
TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 15 University of Tampa women's lacrosse team is set to host the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on Friday, March 23rd at 7:30 p.m.

Last Time Out: The No. 15 University of Tampa Spartans were upset by the No. 19 NYIT Bears by a final score of 8-7. In the matchup, seven different Spartans scored for Tampa including Kayla Kosubinsky, Caroline Forester, Claire Swanson, Shannon Sweeney, Natalie Carraway, Allie Popelar, and Maggie Gladden. Carraway also had the only assist of the game for UT. Defensively, both Paige Johnson and Emily Stevenson had two caused turnovers and one ground ball for the Spartans. In the cage, freshman Bridget Sutter recorded a career high of 15 saves against the Bears. Her goals against average for the 2018 season is 9.06.
About the Spartans: Tampa is currently 7-3 overall, 1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. To start the 2018 season, the Spartans played three top-ranked opponents. In their very first game of the season, they were able to defeat the No. 11 ranked Rollins College Tars 10-6. Later in the season, the team was then able to defeat No. 23 McKendree by a final score of 17-14. The Spartans only three losses this season have been from top ranked opponents, including No. 13 Limestone College, No. 7 Queens University, and No. 19 NYIT. Due to the team's outstanding performance thus far, the Spartans have Snagged the No. 15 rank according to the USILA Coaches Poll. This is the highest ranking the Spartans have received in program history.
About the Chargers: The Chargers are currently 6-2 overall, 3-1 in the Gulf South Conference. The biggest offensive threats for the Chargers are #9 Nicole Federovitch and #30 Alanna Carvolho. This season Federovitch has 36 goals, 14 assists, 17 ground balls, five caused turnovers and five ground balls for the Chargers. Carvalho follows with 33 goals, eight assists, 10 ground balls, three caused turnovers, and 28 draw control wins. Kinta Schott, #17, leads the team in draw control wins with 42. Defensively, the Chargers are led by #21 Ava Boething who has 11 caused turnovers and 14 ground balls. She also has 27 draw control wins for UAH. Alabama-Huntsville's primary goal keeper is #55 Leslie Allen Brown who has logged 45 saves this season and has a goals-against average of 8.51.
