WINTER PARK, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team get one back in the win column as they cruise past the No. 15 Rollins Tars in Sunshine State Conference play.
With today's win, Tampa has now taken the last six contests against their Sunshine State Conference foe -- the Spartans now lead the series 9-8.
How It Happened
- Tampa wasted no time jumping out to a commanding lead as they would score six unanswered in the first half.
- The Spartans would finish the first frame of play leading 5-0 and would go on to take an 8-1 lead into the half.
- Peyton Howell would net four goals in the first half, on her way to six on the day which would lead all scorers.
- Howell, Mary Kate Person, Sia Markowksi, Kaylee VanVladricken and Mekelsey Montgomery would all score in the first half.
- The Spartan defense would remain relentless throughout today's match. Tampa would hold Rollins to just a lone goal in the first half. Isabella Avila would lead the Spartans with two caused turnovers.
- Savvy Barbosa would have a stellar game in-goal as she would help solidify the Tampa win with 12 saves.
- Avila would also go on to win seven draw controls and scooping three ground balls.
- Tampa's defense would remain in control in the second half as they would only give up two goals in each of the remaining two quarters.
- VanVladricken would kick off the final frame of play with a pair of goals to push the lead to a double-digit deficit.
