Boca Raton, Fla. - The third-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team benefited from the strong offensive play by Shelby Kuni and Jocelyn Charette while goalkeeper Shannon Aitken turned in another dominating performance as UT defeated Lynn 4-0. The Spartans improve to 13-2 on the season and 6-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. The victory also assures the Spartans of a first-round bye in the SSC tournament.
The game was scoreless until Tampa scored on an own goal in the 32nd minute. Coming out of the half with a 1-0 advantage, leading scorer Shelby Kuni netted her19th goal of the season at the 46:12 mark. The unassisted goal moves Kuni within two goals of Tai Kirklin's school record for goals in a season.
Freshman Jocelyn Charette added the final two goals for Tampa, her 15th and 16th of the year. Her first goal came at 58:49 from Samantha Robinson as the final goal was unassisted at 68:50. Aitken recorded three saves en route to her 21st career shutout, which is also a UT school record. The Spartans outshot the Knights 21-4 on the match.
Tampa returns home for its final regular season match, a 6:00 pm meeting with Eckerd on Friday, October 20. The match will be played at Pepin Stadium and will mark Senior Day for the Spartans.
