Fourth Straight Shutout for the Spartans

Tampa, Fla.- The fifth-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team defeated the Fighting Knights of Lynn University by a score of 3-0. The Spartans improve to 8-1-1 and 2-0 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Fighting Knights fall to 6-5 and 1-2 in conference play.

The match remained scoreless the first period. Taking that into consideration the Spartans answered within the first 18 seconds into the second half with a goal by Shelby Kuni as she was assisted by Martha Bromfield. Bromfield was credited with her second assist 10 minutes later by Courtney Evan's lone goal of the night. The Spartans put the game out of reach when Marissa Bernard caught the back of the net to give Tampa a 3-0 advantage. Benard was assisted by Brittney Evans who made her season debut after redshirting last season due to injury

Shannon Aitken posted her fourth consecutive shutout, facing four shots and three on goal all in the first half. The Spartans offense outshot the Fighting Knights 18 to four and had a seven to one advantage on corner kicks.

The Spartans are back in action Thursday, October 4, as they host Palm Beach Atlantic at 7 pm.
