LAKELAND, Fla. - The University of Tampa (7-3, 2-2 SSC) women's soccer team fell by a 2-1 score to No. 17 Florida Southern College (6-3-2, 2-1 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference game at FSC's Barnett Field.
The Spartans hit the scoreboard first with an Andrea Arnone goal just before intermission. The goal, in the 40th minute, came via a Samantha Kay cross from the right corner.
Florida Southern answered with a game-tying goal by Kerri-Ann Brown in the 41st minute and eventually connected on the game-winner from the foot of Emily Griffth with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
Freshman Leah Cesanek started in goal for Tampa, finishing with three saves. Florida Southern was credited with 10 shots, five on goal as the Spartans tallied four and two respectively.
Tampa returns to action this weekend as it welcomes a pair of weekend opponents, beginning with a 6 p.m. meeting with Nova Southeastern on Friday and concluding with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday with Florida Tech. UT will offer a webcast and live stats for both games through www.tampaspartans.com.
