Tampa Women’s Soccer Earns Team Academic Award
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - With three-straight NCAA regional finalist appearances, the University of Tampa women's soccer success on the field has also equated to triumphs in the classroom for head coach Gerry Lucey's squad.
UT was among the 729 college soccer teams (224 men, 503 women) that posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.
The Spartans carried a cumulative GPA of 3.18, earning the award. Additionally, the Tampa senior class will depart as four-time honorees for this recognition.
"This is a special award that we look forward to each year," says Lucey. "It represents success in the classroom which is vitally important to our young team. To receive this is just as fulfilling as the awards on the field."
This honor adds to Tampa's academic success, as a total of four Spartans were named Capital One Academic All-District performers. Jenny Karl, Nicole Munnelly, Courtney Peffley and Cina Salemi will each appear on the national ballot for Academic All-American laurels.
