Spartans Erupt With an 8-0 Showing Against Tusculum in Home Opener
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's soccer team exploded for eight goals against the Tusculum University Pioneers for its first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF: The Spartans and Pioneers traded scoring chances to open the game, with Tampa's coming in the 2nd minute and the Pioneers in the 5th. Early offense was a sign of things to come for the Spartans, as they scored three goals in a seven-minute span. Katherine Hostage opened the scoring off a header in the 9th minute, assisted by Quinn Knapp. Two minutes later, forward Stephanie deLaforcade solved the Pioneers keeper, assisted by Hostage. In the 17th minute the Spartans added another, this time by forward Elena Barr (assisted by Brooke Steigerwalt). The Spartans outshot the Pioneers 9-4 in the opening half. Score: 3-0 Tampa
SECOND HALF: The Spartans attack turned it up a notch in the second half—outshooting the Pioneers 17-3—and scoring five goals along the way. Tampa once again scored in bunches, adding three tallies in a five-minute stretch just 12 minutes into the second frame. Madison McElhone scored her second and third goals of the season at the 57' (assisted by Hostage) and 62' (unassisted). Hostage scored her own unassisted goal in 61st minute. Olivia Dubuc rifled the first goal of her career in the 86th minute, unassisted. The Spartans also scored in the 89th minute off the foot of Sophie Shrader (assisted by Sydni Dennis). INSIDE THE STATS:
- Elena Barr, Katherine Hostage, Olivia Dubuc, and Sophie Shrader each scored their first goal of the season.
- Madison McElhone has scored three goals in three games to open the season.
- Junior keeper Lovisa Camel earned her first win of the year and had five saves.
- UT outshot the Pioneers 26-7.
- The Spartans last scored eight goals in a match in an 8-0 victory over Warner Southern on October 28, 2014 at Pepin Stadium.
