Tampa Defeats Eckerd for the 7th Time in a Row

TAMPA, Fla. – The Spartans continue their winning streak, edging out the Eckerd Tritons 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

FIRST HALF: This meeting between the Spartans and the Tritons was off to a hot start with Eckerd taking the first goal in the first minute of play. Tampa followed with an aggressive response, catching an offsides call, but a yellow card (9') on Eckerd set the Spartans up for a penalty kick. Stephanie deLaforcade scored the goal(10'). The Spartans continued their attack with 2 shots on goal (12')(14') by Katherine Hostage but was denied by Eckerd's keeper. The remainder of the half saw the both defenses head-to-head, Tampa's goalie, Lovisa Camel, did her part in protecting the net with a total of 3 saves(20')(42')(43'). The half ended 1-1.

SECOND HALF: The second half of the match saw the Spartans take the lead with another goal by deLaforcade, who was assisted by Gabby Desautels and Hostage (55'). Camel had an outstanding performance and helped keep the lead with an additional 4 saves (56')(60')(80')(89'). With seconds to spare Laken Gallman had her first shot on goal of the season. With no response from the Tritons' offense, the final score was 2-1. The Spartans improved their conference record to 2-0. 

INSIDE THE STATS:

  • Goalie, Camel played the entirety of the match (90 minutes) and had her second game in a row with 7 saves.
