Spartans Fall to Sharks in OT

TAMPA, Fla. – The Spartans fell short to the Sharks in Saturday night's conference match-up.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Final Score: Nova Southeastern 2, Tampa 1 (OT)

Record: Tampa (5-4-1, 4-2 SSC) , Nova Southeastern (5-4-1, 3-2 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

FIRST HALF: Tampa had a strong start with an early shot on goal by Katherine Hostage that was blocked by the Sharks' keeper (2"). Hostage came back some time later and scored the first goal of the match, her fifth of the season, assisted by Jalyssa Richardson (27"). Lovisa Camel protected the narrow lead (31"), and Hostage had another shot, saved by the NSU goalkeeper (33"). The Spartans couldn't hold off the Sharks much longer as they tied the match 1-1 (36"). Attempting to pull ahead Stephanie deLaforcade had a shot on goal (37") followed by a header by Elena Barr (42"). The half ended 1-1. 

SECOND HALF: Both teams made their best attempts to take the lead this half; there were 11 shots taken in total. DeLaforcade (52") and Quinn Knapp (72") had a shot on goal. Camel did her part, logging another save (82"), pushing the match into overtime. 

1ST OT: The Sharks' first shot of overtime was blocked by Camel (90'). Hostage was given the chance to score a penalty kick but the shot was saved by Nova's keeper. A few moments later, Nova broke through the Spartan defense and scored (95"), taking the match 2-1. 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Hostage now has five goals on the season

• This is Tampa's first loss to Nova since the 2017-2018 season.
