Bio

Anna Buhigas is in her first season as an assistant coach at the University of Tampa as she joined the Spartan staff in the summer of 2019. She also serves as an academic mentor for the UT athletic department.

Buhigas played Division I soccer at Lipscomb, serving as the team captain for three years. She was also a three-time all-conference performer. She has also volunteered as a coach for the Father Ryan girls’ soccer team, served as a soccer camp counselor for two summers and coached youth teams while in Europe.

Played and started in every single game in four-year career at Lipscomb. Captained the team for 3 seasons. Was an all-conference selection all four years. Was named Goalkeeper of the Year a record 3 times during her sophomore, junior and senior year campaigns. Breaking many conference records including shutouts in a single season (13). Also named Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2014.

After college pursued professional soccer playing in Italy’s Top league ( Serie A) for 2 seasons. Also played a season with Barcelona Cyprus. Winning the league, Super Cup and finishing 17th in the Women’s Champions League. 

She has also served on two mission trips to El Salvador and spent two years traveling and living in Europe learning about language acquisition. Part of her childhood was also spent in Southern Spain.

Her teaching experience includes working as a student-teacher at East Nashville Magnet High School and the Nashville School of the Arts as a Spanish observer/teacher. Buhigas also has practicum experience at Nashville School of the Arts, Hillsboro High School, Lipscomb Academy and Lipscomb University IDEAL special education program.

A 2017 graduate of Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., Buhigas received her bachelor's degree in Spanish. Graduating with a GPA of 3.77, she received an academic and athletic scholarship. She was also a member of the honor roll at Lipscomb and was presented as the 2014 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
