UT Swimmers Notch Victory Over SCAD
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams each defeated Savannah College of Art and Design. The men won by a score of 136-126 while the Spartan women won by a 146-111 mark.
Robert Felton won the first event for UT's men, taking first in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:59.02. Tampa also had victories in the 50 Free from Andrew Johnson (21.89), 100 Free from Tyler Furrer (48.42) and 200 Back from Patrick Murray (1:59.82).
Tampa's men also championed the 400 Free Relay as the team of Blaine Bess, Patrick Murray, Andrew Johnson and Tyler Furrer was the first to finish, in a time of 3:13.77.
The Spartan women began the meet while taking the top two spots in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Ellie Eshleman, Allison Vetter, Lindsay Calimer and Amy O'Brien won in a time of 1:51.62.
All-American Jessie Bardin, Eshleman and Madaleine Clark each won two individual races to lead the UT women. Bardin captured both the 100 and 200 Free events in respective times of 54.19 and 1:58.36. Eshleman did the same in the 100 and 200 Back in 59.92 and 2:10.65.
Clark, a freshman from Bend, Ore., enjoyed her best day of her young career while winning both the 1,650 and 500 Free races. After conquering the 1,650 Free in a time of 18:17.81, Clark then registered a winning time of 5:21.88 in the 500 Free.
Other Spartans to win individual races included Calimer in the 200 Fly (2:12.21), O'Brien in the 50 Free (24.98) and Emilee Margiotta in the 100 Fly (58.90).
Tampa returns to action on Friday as it hosts Indian River College at 3:30 p.m.
