Indian River Edges Tampa In Swimming Action
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams suffered a pair of losses to perennial powerhouse Indian River State College. The Spartan men lost 139-123 while the women fell 136-126.
The Spartan women began the race with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Ellie Eshleman, Allison Vetter, Lindsay Calimer and Amy O'Brien clocked a time of 1:49.84.
In individual action, Eshleman won the 100 and 200 Back races while posting respective times of 58.64 and 2:09.98. Calimer also won the 100 Fly with a time of 58.39.
On the men's side, Felipe Manzo took first-place in the 50 Free with a time of 22.01. Tampa also picked up victories from Blaine Bess in the 100 Free (48.49) and Paul LaPorta in the 100 Fly (52.86).
In relay action, the UT men won the 400 Free Relay as Manzo, Bess, Andrew Johnson and LaPorta were the first to finish after a time of 3:13.18.
Tampa is back in action on Friday as it hosts NCAA Division I opponent Florida A&M University at 3:30 p.m.
