Women's Swimming Falls to IRSC in Friday Showdown
Makayla Ayers recorded a pair of first-place wins, but Tampa was unable to overcome the strong sprinters of Indian River State.
TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 15 University of Tampa women's swimming team fell to visiting Indian River State College by a 154-108 score on Friday at the UT Aquatic Center.
The Spartans won five events but were unable to overcome the strong IRSC sprinters.
Sophomore Sophie Long claimed the third event of the meet, finishing first in the women's 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.73.
Freshman Izzy Spalding bested the field in the 200 yard butterfly, touching the wall after 2:10.25 to take first. Fellow freshman Makayla Ayers added a distance victory by notching the top-time in the 1000 yard freestyle behind a 10:44.85 effort. Ayers won the 500 freestyle with a 5:15.61 effort, claiming two events for Tampa.
Sophomore Catherine Bayes was the victor of the 200 yard backstroke, finishing with a 2:12.38 time to take first-place in the event.
UT will return to action on Saturday, hosting the Tampa Relays for an 11:00 a.m. start time at the UT Aquatic Center. A live video webcast will be provided through www.tampaspartans.com.
