UT Women First, Men Second After Day One of Spartan Invite
Spartan women hold lead and set new school record in opening day.
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams opened competition at the fourth-annual Spartan Invite, which includes a total of six teams.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Men's Day One Final: Indian River 207, Tampa 202, Florida Southern 123.5, Nova Southeastern 117.5, Saint Leo 101, Catawba 24
Women's Day One Final: Tampa 278, Nova Southeastern 218, Indian River 148, Saint Leo 56, Florida Southern 50, Catawba 25

RECORD PERFORMANCES:
- The Spartan women finished day one with a new school record in the 200 Medley Relay. Hana van Loock, Elizaveta Bazarova, Molly O'Hara and Megan Waddell were part of the team that finished in 1:42.25.
MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:
- Brian Valedon turned in a third-place effort in the 1,000 Free after finishing in 9:23.73.
- Finishing third in the 200 IM was Brett Saunders with a time of 1:47.87.
- The 200 Medley Relay team captured a first-place finish with a time of 1:29.35 from Luke Hene, Jared Fitzgerald, Andre Richardson and Aaron James.
WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:
- Jessie Tobin and Maureen Moore finished second and third respectively in the 1,000 Free with times of 10:15.93 and 10:17.49.
- A third-place finish came from Cat Sterlacci in the 200 IM after being clocked at 2:04.67.
- UT took the top-three spots in the 50 Free as Waddell and van Loock tied for first with an identical time of 23.40. O'Hara followed with a time of 23.59.
