Bio

Ed Brennan is in his third season as associate head coach after successfully constructing a Division II national swimming power in his 38 years as head coach at the University of Tampa.

His teams are consistently ranked among the nation's top 20 and he has coached individuals to 29 national championships in over a quarter of a century with the program.

Brennan, who has coached more All-American's and individual national champions than any other coach in the University's history, recently guided his women to a first-place finish at the 2011, 2013 and 2014 Sunshine State Conference Championships. He has also sent both teams to the NCAA Nationals in every season since 1993. His women recently medaled with a fourth-place finish in 2012, as the women's 800 Free Relay claimed a 2013 national championship.

In 2009, he coached three national championship swimmers and coached back-to-back-to-back national champions from 2000-2002. He also helped Chelsea Hastings to three individual national titles in 2005.

Brennan has produced over 200 athletes who have achieved All-America status during his lengthy tenure at Tampa. His students have also regularly excelled in the classroom, garnering over 100 academic awards.

In 1986, Brennan was named women's national Coach-of-the-Year when his team entered the NCAA II championships ranked 10th and finished as national runner-up.

On the men's side, the Spartans have finished in the top ten nationally all but one year since 1998, and the women's program placed sixth nationally after finishing eighth in the country the previous four consecutive years.

Prior to joining the Sunshine State Conference, Brennan led his women's team to a 2009 Bluegrass Conference championship. In 2003, the Spartan men won the New South Conference championship for the first time with Brennan earning New South Coach of the Year honors.

Under Brennan's guidance, Spartan teams have placed among the NCAA top three on four occasions (women three times, men once). He has scheduled the likes of Ohio State, Notre Dame, Clemson, Auburn and Boston College to compete against Tampa. Brennan began his career at Columbia Prep School in New York City. While there he compiled a 78-23 record over nine years which included an undefeated season in 1974-75. He then moved on to Fordham University, where took an 0-10 team to a 10-0 finish the next year, the school's only undefeated season in 50 years of competition, earning Brennan conference Coach-of-the-Year honors in 1979.

A graduate of Long Island University and a Brooklyn, N.Y., native, Ed and his wife Lois reside in Tampa. They have two daughters, Merrie and Meghan.
