Spartans Take Fifth Straight Victory in Win Over St. Cloud State
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 15 University of Tampa (11-3) tennis team won its fifth straight contest in a 9-0 victory over visiting St. Cloud State University (10-7) on Saturday at the Naimoli and Young Family Complex.
With the victory, UT now has a string of five straight matches where it has taken 44 of 45 matches from its opponents.
Tampa started the match with victories on all three doubles matches. The number-two team of Kelsey Matthews and Lindsay Nochowicz won by an 8-0 score as the number one and three teams both won by a score of 8-3. The top team consisted of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski as Chloe Pereira and Nikol Williams made up the third doubles team.
In singles, the Spartans lost just five games as number-one player and national No. 50 Thashia Garcia took a 6-0, 6-0 straight set sweep over her opponent.
Hewett also won 6-0, 6-0 from her number-three spot as number-five Kelsey Matthews also took the sweep without giving up a game. Wlasimirski, Nochowicz and Pereira each won from the two, four and six spots respectively.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday at 3 p.m., versus West Chester University.
