No. 23 Tampa Tops NCAA Division I Opponent Mercer
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 23 University of Tampa (4-5) tennis team picked up a convincing 6-3 victory over NCAA Division I opponent Mercer University (5-9) on Saturday at the Naimoli & Young Family Tennis Complex.
The Spartans trailed 2-1 following doubles action as the home-court team was able to win the number three match. Kelsey Matthews and Katherine Pyne were victorious by a score of 8-4.
In singles, number-one Lauren Hewett won as her opponent retired following two games. Tampa also won the three through six matches from Viviana Tedino, Matthews, Pyne and Jenelle Morgan.
The Spartans will have a quick turnaround and host No. 50 Wayne State University (Mich.) on Sunday at 11 a.m.
