2017 Season Comes to End for Spartans
UT concludes campaign at SSC Championships.
BRADENTON, Fla. – The University of Tampa tennis team fell to No. 2 Lynn University in the opening round of the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Championships.

- The Fighting Knights commanded doubles play with victories of 8-1, 8-2 and 8-0.
- Lynn clinched the match with singles wins at number three and six.
- The three-match ended 6-0, 6-0 while the four was 6-1, 6-1.
- The one, two, four and five contests were each unfinished as tournament play concludes when the match is clinched.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Maddie Stephens led the way with 13 singles wins in 2017 as the sophomore was 13-5 overall.
- Stephens also ranks No. 14 in school history with 24 career singles wins.
- Freshmen Ava Sowell and Lilley Nice each won 12 matches in their first collegiate season. Sowell was 12-3 while Nice was 12-6 on the year.
- Caroline Lozo was the squad's top player, finishing 9-9, including seven wins from her number-one singles spot.
- Nice and Stephens were 15-4 in doubles play, competing at number two.
- Danielle Beyes and Sowell finished 13-2 overall, winning 10 matches at number three doubles.
- Emily Hewland is tied for sixth in program history with 27 doubles victories.
- The 2017 Spartan schedule featured eight ranked opponents.
- Tampa posted wins over No. 15 Nova Southeastern and No. 36 Embry-Riddle this season.
- The Spartans will return all eight letterwinners from the 2017 season.
