ITA Tabs Ekaterina Grib as South Region Player to Watch
TEMPE, Ariz. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced its 2020 Division II Women ITA Regional Awards, naming Ekaterine Grib of the University of Tampa as the South Region Player to Watch. Despite the shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ITA recognizes the hard work on and off the court from our deserving student-athletes. The Division II Awards include: Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship, ITA Rookie of the Year, ITA Player to Watch, ITA Most Improved Senior, ITA Senior Player of the Year, and ITA Community Service Award.
Grib, a sophomore from Minsk, Belarus, finished the 2020 season with a singles record of 12-1 with a nine-match winning streak to conclude the season. In doubles, she teamed with Savannah Williams at the top spot and went 8-4. She was also the first player in program history to be named ITA National Player of the Week. She also became the first player in program history to earn All-American status.
The national winners of the awards will be announced next Tuesday at 8 AM PDT during a special virtual awards ceremony. The awards ceremony can be viewed on the ITA's Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube.
