Two-Day USF Invite Complete for Spartans
Claudia Cancello won the 1,500 for Tampa.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's track teams ran at the USF Open, which took place Friday and Saturday at the University of South Florida.
Tampa men had a number of top performances, including a strong 1,500 Meter effort by both Jessie Boria (9th, 4:07.78) and Matt Hoffman (11th, 4:11.51).
In the men's 3,000 meter run, the Spartans were led by Brendan McGonagle, who finished with a time of 9:26.12 to place 11th overall. Mitch Arnold followed at 13th as he was timed at 9:31.78.
The 800 Meter Run included a trio of Spartans in the top-10, led by Caitlin Whetsone's fifth place time of 2:25.86. Rachel Higgins was seventh (2:26.91) as Claudia Cancello was ninth (2:28.47).
Cancello would go on to win the 1,500 Meter Run, being timed at 4:47.90. Teammate Aimee Epps was eighth at 5:05.80.
Chantalle Blundell continued her strong spring with a championship in the 3,000 meter run. The senior was clocked at 10:29.31. Elaina Cancello (5th, 10:54.00) and Juli Boehm (6th, 10:54.95) also represented Tampa in the top 10.
Tampa returns to USF on Thursday and Friday for the Bulls Invitational.
