No. 3 Tampa Sweeps Doubleheader in South Regional Crossover

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The No. 3 University of Tampa volleyball team (16-1) concluded the first day of the South Regional Crossover with victories over Christian Brothers (8-12) and host No. 19 West Florida (15-6) by scores of 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.

Tampa defeated Christian Brothers in a sweep (25-13, 25-15, 25-14). Outside hitting tandem Berkley Whaley and Holly Reschke paced the offense alongside right side hitter Marissa Lisenbee.

Whaley ended the contest with a team-leading 12 kills while Lisenbee grounded ten. Junior Meagan Burke swung at a sizzling .800 clip. Setting duo Kahley Patrick and Gina Clarke paced the offensive tempo with 19 and eight assists respectively.

The Spartan defense tallied eight blocks on the contest as Burke had a team-high three, while Lisenbee and Whaley each had a hand in two stops.

The Spartans took the second match by a 3-1 tally against the No. 19 team in the nation and hosts of the tournament, the University of West Florida. Tampa took the match by scores of 21-25, 25-14, 25-10, 25-15 as the team begins the tournament 2-0.

Jen Scholz paced the Spartans defense with 21 digs in the contest, while Whaley led the attack with a team-high 15 kills while grounding a trio of service aces.

Holly Reschke had 13 kills in the match with Burke and Lisenbee contributing ten kills each. Patrick provided the tempo with 40 assists to manage the Spartan's hitting corps.

Tampa will continue the South Regional Crossover on Saturday with a pair of matches against North Alabama at 12:45 p.m. and Valdosta State at 5:15 p.m. Both games will be played at the UWF Field House of host West Florida.
