Spartans Conclude Season in South Region Semifinal

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The No. 23 University of Tampa volleyball team's season comes to an end at the hands of rival Florida Southern College by a 3-0 score in the NCAA Division II South Region Semifinal in Rubin Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Set 1 | FSC outside hitter Nicole Mattson blasted 10 kills in the first frame to dominate the opening set. Senior Allee Stelogeannis totaled four kills and four digs while sophomore Gen Beaumier notched two kills and two service aces. Florida Southern came away with the set by a 25-21 score behind the swing of Mattson.

Set 2 | Florida Southern continued its momentum into the second set, as its outside tandem of Mattson and Anna Tovo continued to control the match. The Mocs took a decisive 2-0 match lead after defeating UT 25-16 in the second stanza.

Set 3 | The Spartans were unable to stop Mattson as the FSC outside hitter led the Mocs to a 3-0 sweep behind a final set score of 25-19.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Sophomore Logan Holanchock finished with the team-lead in digs with 13 while setter Sammy Mueller posted 12 digs.

• Beaumier finished the contest with three service aces while middle blocker Alexandra Misca added two service aces. The squad totaled eight service aces on the match.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

• Florida Southern finished Tampa's season for the second-consecutive year, defeating the Spartans in a dramatic 3-2 thriller in last year's South Region Semifinal.

• The Mocs take the season series 2-1 after both team's claimed a win on their home court.
