Tampa Defeats Eckerd Round Two

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The No. 8 University of Tampa defeated Eckerd College for the second time this season, by a final score of 3-1. The Spartans beat the Tritons by set scores of 25-14, 25-15, 21-25, and 25-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sophomore outside hitter, Sorrel Houghton led the Spartans to victory with 17 kills on 47 attempts. The Osteen, Florida native hit .234 on the match in addition to earning six digs and two blocks. Following her offensive efforts were those of fellow pin hitter, Katie McKiel, who earned her 13^th double-double this season with 13 kills and 15 digs. Taylor Fosler was also dominating in the middle with 11 kills on 19 attempts hitting a whopping .526 to end the match. Sophomore Melissa Elias, earned a team-high of 18 digs for Tampa in addition to logging 12 assists, while setter, Sammy Mueller, recorded 33 assists and 12 digs.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Katie McKiel, Melissa Elias, and Sammy Mueller all earned double-doubles. Their 13^th, 8^th, and 12^th respectively on the season.

• Nicole Dominguez played libero for the Spartans and ended the match with 17 digs.  

• This is the Spartans second win over the Tritons this season. Sweeping Eckerd in the first meeting on 9/13/18.   

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Tritons 93-2.
