Spartans Falter Against Buccaneers

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 7 University of Tampa Spartans fall short to the No. 23 Barry Buccaneers in four by set scores of 27-25, 23-25, 22-25, and 20-25.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Spartans and Buccaneers battled boldly the entire game. Sophomore Katie McKiel led the Spartans in kills with 23, while her opposite Sorrel Houghton had 14 kills. McKiel ended the match hitting.267 on 60 total attempts. Additionally, McKiel stated 15 digs for UT.  Middle blocker, Alexandra Misca, added 6 kills from the middle. The Satu Mare, Romania native hit .300 on the match. UT used  Sammy Mueller ass their primary setter who ended the game with a team-high of 47 assists. Defensively, junior libero Nicole Dominguez had a team-high of 19 digs, followed by McKiel's 15. 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Katie McKiel had 23 kills, bringing her season total to 364. She was the only Spartan to log a double-double in the matchup. 

• Nicole Dominguez ended the match with 19 digs. She now has 428 on the season.

• Sammy Mueller now has a total of 1,055 assists in her junior campaign.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Buccaneers 54-17. This was the second time this season that Tampa and Barry have met, Tampa having won the first showdown.
